Asian Shares Mixed as Markets Await News on China-US Trade

Shares were mixed early Monday in Asia in the absence of fresh news on the trade war between the U.S and China.

Japan’s Nikkei index moved up 0.3% to 21,173.27 after Donald Trump, who is on Japan’s visit, said he expects a deal with Tokyo on trade after a Japanese election in July.

The US president has been seeking a bilateral trade deal with Japan after pulling out of the Pacific Rim trading block, Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The dollar advanced to 109.46 Japanese yen from 109.31 yen on Friday. The Euro strengthened to $1.125 from $1.1190.
