Nissan Motor announced a nationwide expansion of its EV battery recycling and second-life usage program across Japan. The initiative focuses on recovering lithium-ion batteries from older Nissan Leaf models and repurposing them for energy storage systems and industrial applications.

Executives said the move will reduce dependence on imported raw materials while supporting Japan’s broader carbon-neutrality goals. Nissan plans to partner with local governments and utilities to increase adoption of reused battery systems in smart-grid projects.
