Mazda Aims for Upscale Appeal with Inline-6 Engines

Mazda Motors Corporation has been an internal combustion aficionado in the age of electrification. The company is planning two inline, six-cylinder engines for a series of bigger vehicles on a completely new platform that will turn up in the next six years.

One of the upcoming inline sixes will use Mazda’s new gasoline-powered Skyactive-X spark-controlled compression ignition system. The other will be an inline six-cylinder diesel.  

The introduction of the large architecture indicates a possible interest in rear wheel drive.
