Aug 22 2025:
Ford Motor Company announced a temporary production halt for its F-150 Lightning electric pickup amid safety investigations into several reported battery fires. The company said it would not resume full production until it verifies that the battery packs meet tougher safety and thermal management standards.
The pause affects the Dearborn, Michigan plant and delays deliveries of thousands of units. Ford says it is coordinating with suppliers to upgrade module design and implement enhanced fire-suppression systems. Customers already delivered vehicles will receive over-the-air software updates and, in some cases, replacement battery modules.
