2019 Mazda CX-5 Earns Sixth Straight Top Safety Award

The fearless Mazda CX-5 gets more captivating this year with a host of updates for 2019, not the least of which is its new turbo engine option. The IIHS has named the compact SUV a top safety pick plus. However, only the models with improved LED headlights to qualify.

The CX-5 performed great in all of the agency’s crash tests, and also qualified the headlight and front crash prevention. It is the sixth straight year the Mazda CX-5 has earned a top crash rating.  

Every year, the criterion for the top safety pick gets tougher for the vehicles to qualify, and for 2019 it becomes stricter; the vehicles must have good scores across all crash tests, which also include new passenger-side small overlap front test.
