China announced expanded curbs on rare earth metal exports, prompting warnings from Italian auto-parts lobby ANFIA that the European automotive industry could face serious supply constraints. The industry relies heavily on these metals for electric-motor magnets and other key vehicle components.  

ANFIA’s chairman noted that while manufacturers had managed previous supply disruptions, current reserves are nearly depleted. With China refining and processing the vast majority of rare earths globally, the restrictions may slow down production or push up costs for EV makers in Europe.
