Renault Group has announced plans to roll out Level 4 autonomous vehicles for public transportation, marking a significant step toward the future of shared, driverless mobility. The initiative highlights Renault's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and smart urban transportation.

The French automaker is working in partnership with autonomous driving specialist WeRide to develop and deploy a new fleet of self-driving shuttles. These Level 4 vehicles will be capable of fully autonomous operation within designated routes and conditions — with no human driver required behind the wheel.

“Public transportation is central to our autonomous mobility vision,” said a spokesperson from Renault Group. “By combining our manufacturing expertise with WeRide’s advanced autonomous systems, we aim to deliver safe, efficient, and low-emission solutions for tomorrow’s cities.”

Renault has already completed several successful pilot programs. During the Roland-Garros 2024 tennis tournament, autonomous shuttles transported visitors between the stadium and nearby transit points. More recently, a trial in Barcelona demonstrated a driverless mini-bus operating on a 2.2 km urban route, offering free rides to passengers.
